A collection of recent successes from the Murray Research Group.

2023

December Congratulations to Kate Ermentrout for graduating with her BS in mechanical engineering. She will be pursuing graduate school next.

October Congratulations to Kyle Holland for successfully defending his masters thesis. He will be joining Raytheon in the coming months.

August The team welcomes Sina Alipour Aghdam, a new PhD student. Sina will work on fused filament fabrication of metal alloys in collaboration with the Zhou group. Learn more about him on the Meet the Team page.

August Dr. Murray (PI) and Dr. Zhou (co-PI) are awarded a one-year seed grant to work on understanding the process-structure relationship of printed metal alloys.

August Dr. Murray (PI) and Dr. Zhou (co-PI) are awarded a one-year faculty development grant to study the process-structure-property relationship of fused filament fabricated metallic alloys.

June Kate Ermentrout presents her work On the Relationship Between Race, Gender, and Student Success from the First Year to Second Year in Engineering at the Annual American Society for Engineering Education Conference in Baltimore, MD.

March Erin Whalen joins the team as undergraduate research assistant and is named an Opus College Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow. 

January Dr. Murray (co-PI) and collaborators Drs. Young-Brice (PI) and Roy (co-PI) have been awarded a new 3-year project funded by NSF. The work focuses on bringing a human-centered approach to engineering education. More details are available from NSF and Marquette Today.

2022

December Congratulations to Gaby Bascunan Simone and Trisha Butz on graduating with bachelors in mechanical engineering. They are beginning their post-graduate careers at Astronautics and Sub-Zero, respectively.

August The team welcomes 3 new students, Trisha Butz, Jules Weis, and Mahbub Peyal, to the research group. Check out Meet the Team to learn what they're working on.

June Dr. Murray and collaborators from Purdue University have a new paper "Poly(5-carboxyindole)–β-Cyclodextrin Composite Materials for Enhanced Formaldehyde Gas Sensing" appearing in the Journal of Materials Science.

May Sam Wilsdorf earns his BS in mechanical engineering. He is joining Milwaukee Tool as a Design Engineer.

May Mitch Ruopp earns his ME in mechanical engineering. His next role is to be announced.

May Dr. Murray is a co-PI on a new project with Drs. Parolari and Mayer of civil engineering titled "Synthetic Infiltration and Nutrient Treatment Media for Stormwater Management" funded by the Lafferty Family Foundation.

May Kate Ermentrout and Konstantin Plested join the team as undergraduate research assistants. Find out more at Meet the Team.

April Dr. Murray receives the Opus College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award.

March Kate Ermentrout is named an Opus Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow.

2021

August The group welcomes a new graduate student, Kyle Holland, from Milwaukee School of Engineers. Check out what he is working out on Meet the Team.

August Dr. Murray presents work at the Wisconsin Space Grant Conference on "A Mixed Methods Study on Transactional Distance of Engineering Students during COVID-19."

August Dr. Murray and collaborators from Purdue University have a new paper "Conductive Polymer Spark Gap Igniters" appearing in Propellants, Explosives, and Pyrotechnics.

May Sam Wilsdorf joins the research team as an undergraduate research assistant. Learn about Sam's project on Meet the Team.

April Dr. Murray is a co-PI on a new project with Dr. Ropella titled "Racial Equity and Community Seed Grant" funded by the GHR Foundation.

March Sam Wilsdorf is named an Opus Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow.

January Drs. Murray, Roy, and Voglewede submit a preprint to EdArxiv titled "Did the Student-Instructor and Peer-to-Peer Divide Widen with Instructional Changes during COVID-19?"

January Dr. Murray is the PI on "Propagation, Research, and Evaluation of an Educational Innovation in Multiple Settings with a Focus on the Role of Institutional Culture" a sub-award from Purdue University on a NSF funded project.

2020

September Dr. Murray is the PI on a project with Drs. Roy and Voglewede, faculty in mechanical engineering, titled "Can Anyone Hear Me? Assessing the Transactional Distance for Engineering Students during COVID-19" funded by the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium.

August Dr. Murray starts a new position as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Marquette University.
