A Model for Human-Centered Engineering Education: Broadening Engineering Teaching with Theory-based Educational Resources (BETTER)

Invitation to Participate
We are excited to share a faculty development opportunity which explores the science of learning and the impact of teacher-student interactions in changing beliefs and behaviors regarding teaching and learning. Our project seeks to broaden engineering teaching with theory-based educational resources (BETTER).

You can participate in BETTER via either Community of Practice (CoP) or Self-paced Learning Group (SLG) and learn to incorporate learning theory through a human-centered framework as part of your teaching practice. Both CoP and SLG participants will receive stipends of a minimum of $600 for their participation in this study.

-
The Community of Practice will take place in-person over six 4 hour long sessions over the months of May through July. The sessions will take place in the campus of Marquette University, Milwaukee.
-
The Self-Paced Learning Group will complete modules based on the same curriculum as the CoP, but in an online asynchronous format during the months of May through July.

All relevant reading materials will be provided to you for your participation.

If you choose to participate in the CoP, we do ask that you are able to attend the twice monthly sessions in person. You are responsible for transportation; we can provide a voucher for campus parking. We will also provide a light lunch.

If interested in either of these opportunities to learn more about learning theory and how the brain learns, please click "Volunteer to Participate" below to review the study consent form, review the data to be collected, and indicate your voluntary participation. Please note that due to capacity limitations, we may have to limit the total number of participants for the CoP or SLG and you may be asked to consider a different group or cohort.
For individuals interested in learning more about the project, including data collection methods and IRB protocols, the research consent form can be downloaded by clicking "Download Consent Form" below.
